Friday 15th July marks the beginning of the 4th edition of the Sliema Arts Festival. This inspirational event replete with art and music, showcased in one of Malta’s most well-known social hubs, will take place for a whole weekend, ending on Sunday 17th. Food stalls, Maltese artists and craftsmen, local talent, games, entertainment and much more will be the order of the day. Coupled with Sliema’s unique promenade, not to mention its relaxing beaches, this promises to make the event a memorable one.
This weekend is being organised by the Sliema Local Council, in collaboration with the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government. It is an event which the whole family can enjoy, featuring interactive entertainment like street art and children’s games, as well as a number of local and international artists, musicians, street dancers and live performances.
The whole event will be structured into four different ‘areas’. The first area, ‘The Bay Stage’, powered by Trackage Scheme, will be situated at Independence Gardens. Famous Maltese radio station 89.7 Bay will be hosting this section and will be presenting a number of upcoming bands, solo musicians, and DJs who will delight all present with free musical sets and performances. Different food providers and stands will also be centred throughout this area, including a well-stocked bar and a BBQ section.
Area 2, called ‘Rock the Beach’, will be, as the name implies, situated directly on Sliema’s rocky beach in Tower Road, exactly under the Tower next to Exiles. The main stage in this area will be available for jamming sessions, bands and even open mic sessions. These will be open to any new musician, vocalist or songwriter who, regardless of experience, wants to try his hand at performing. Well-known bands like nosnow/noalps, Kill the Action, Kingdom of Dusk, Fuzzhoneys, Beesqueeze, and Falcon’s Flying Circus, amongst others, will also be taking the stage. Different music including Indie, Alternative, Hip Hop, Electric, Reggae and Punk will be delighting the attendees, as well as dancers who will keep up the entertainment. The bar will be open all day, every day from 11am. This year’s highlight with regards to the ‘Rock the Beach’ will surely be the ‘Silent Disco’ where people will be given headphones to listen to different music genres in tandem. Area 2 will also feature an Artisan’s Market, where homemade crafts, hand crafted jewellery, candles and many more products will be available for those who want to fully appreciate the Maltese lifestyle.
The third designated area, called ‘Surfer’s Paradise’, will feature deck chair/waiter service, live jazz, stand-up comedy, house/electro-swing/drum n bass music, massage, yoga, water sports and much more, all surrounded by a tropical atmosphere. This area will be found in Tower Road as well.
The fourth area will focus on the Reggae lifestyle. Entitled ‘Juuls Reggae Pon Di Beach’, it will be a joy to all those searching for music, platters, cocktails and relaxation. Powered by Island Rockers Sound System, this area will be found at Surfside Sliema Beach.
A Park & Ride service will also be available at only €2.
So, let’s all head to Sliema to enjoy some typical summer fun!
