Mdina Grand Prix Classic Car Event, Malta.If you love classic cars, exciting racing and panoramic views then there is nothing better than the Mdina Grand Prix, which will take place for the fifth consecutive year on the 8th October. This four day event will feature around 65 classic pre-1976 cars from both Malta, Europe and even farther afield. The course is set in the beautiful countryside beneath the ancient city of Mdina and the racing events over four days will feature a good balance of both competition and concours d’élégance.

On Thursday 8th October, the racing events start with a night time hillclimb test against the clock, outside the village of Mellieha. During this stand alone event, competitors will have to tackle the ‘Ta’ Pinellu hill, a fast 2.5 km stretch that will test the cars and driving skills to the max.

The Concours d’Elegance will be held on Friday 9th October and will be staged in the recently renovated gardens outside the walls of Mdina. Examples of rare and beautiful classic cars will be on display to visitors in this stunning setting.

Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October will see the racing begin in ernest with a challenging circuit taking place outside Mdina’s fortified walls. The demanding 2.2 kilometer street circuit will see the race cars put through their paces on a track with a combination of tight bends, sweeping curves and inclines that wind their way through the valley below Mdina. It will be as fast and exhilarating to watch, as it is to drive.

There will be two practice sessions on Saturday morning and the afternoon’s racing will see the cars timed individually to decide the qualifying order for Sunday’s grid. The final race on Sunday will see groups of 8 – 10 cars compete around the challenging circuit that is sure to bring out the very best in performance driving by both the drivers and their classic racing automobiles.

The Mdina Grand Prix draws to a close on Sunday evening with a presentation dinner, where the winners will be announced and trophies awarded. Scrutineering of the Maltese cars will take place on Saturday 3rd October at The Point Shopping Mall in Pjazza Tigne, Sliema at 14:00. This is a unique car race in a fantastic location, and one not to miss.
